Job Description

EFL teachers teach English as a foreign language using the communicative method and project work. They enable students to practice and improve the four basic language skills of listening, speaking, reading, and writing: with a focus on real-life communication. Grammar, pronunciation, vocabulary, and discourse all play an important part in the course.  In all lessons, students are encouraged to communicate with each other using the target structures and vocabulary.

Responsibilities
  • Be familiar with the courses the school offers and its syllabus.
  • Prepare lessons efficiently to conduct them competently. Lesson planning should cater to the needs of individuals in the class, based on individual learning plans or mini-class profiles.
  • Assist in first-day testing, placement, and induction if required.
  • Set and mark daily homework including written assignments once a week appropriate to the needs of the class.
  • Administer weekly tests.
  • Monitor students’ progress.
  • Incorporate technology such as tablets and smartphones into your teaching and use the interactive projector when scheduled to teach in a room with such facilities.
  • Monitor and record students’ attendance and report any junior absences after 15 minutes.
  • Move students up or down a level as required in consultation with the Academic Manager.
  • Liaise regularly with teaching partners if you share a class, and provide handover information to new or substitute teachers.
  • Substitute for other teachers in case of their absence, as agreed with the Academic Manager.
  • Be familiar with and help promote the weekly Social Programme.
  • Be prepared to teach junior classes and specialist programmes as required.
  • Be involved in the school’s observation (both by the Academic Manager and peer observations) and performance programme including appraisals.
  • Assist with the long-term procedures (counselling session exit test and interview) as required.
  • Abide by the copyright rules and always source material before photocopying.
  • Abide by the health and safety standards and procedures and ensure high levels of student safety and welfare.
  • Report any safeguarding or health and safety concerns immediately.
  • Maintain adequate levels of student discipline.
  • Be familiar with and complete risk assessments as required.
  • Keep the teachers’ room and your classroom tidy and be responsible for the key to the cupboard in your room.
  • Any other reasonable/appropriate duties
Education /Qualification 
  • Essential - First Degree or higher + CELTA or equivalent
  • Desirable - DELTA or equivalent
Skills and Experience
  • Experience teaching in an EFL school or summer centre is essential
  • Experience of working or living overseas is desirable
Additional Information
Salary: Hourly rate depending on experience  
Location: Dublin 
Hours: Ad-hoc as required.
