NCS (National Citizen Service) is a government-backed initiative with a mission to equip 15-17 year olds with the confidence, skills and support they need to make a real difference in their communities. The aim is to encourage young people from different backgrounds to mix through a local, community-based programme.

Salary rate : Residential £93/day; Non-Residential £77.25/day
About the role
Leading a group of up to 16 young people through the 2 week part-residential NCS (National Citizen Service) programme. You will be working away from home on the residential part of the programme for the first week (5 days) and the second week (5 days) will be based in a local community hub delivering a social action project.
Ensuring the safety and pastoral needs of your team are met. Prepare and deliver inclusive and engaging sessions throughout the programme and support your team in devising a successful community project. Act as a role model, enthusiastically taking on challenges and supporting your team to do the same. Team Leaders should be passionate about young people and making a difference in their lives.
Key Responsibilities
Lead a team of up to 16 young people, from various social backgrounds, through the NCS programme, maintaining high levels of enthusiasm and engagement
Coach, support and work closely with Assistant Team Leaders and Support Workers where suitable during the delivery of a set curriculum to groups of young people
Implement Health and Safety standards/procedures for each activity/event (including COVID-19 guidance) and ensuring that young people are following all safety guidance throughout
Act as a role model, encouraging young people to develop inclusive and positive behaviour towards others, and address challenging behaviour in an effective way
Plan and deliver sessions to your team of young people, either face-to-face or via virtual means (if necessary)
Ensure young people are engaging in activities by adapting session plans to individuals with the support of your Assistant Team Leader
Adhere to and actively ensure all policies and procedures are followed, and manage individuals who may not be following these, especially regarding safeguarding, consent, confidentiality, information sharing and data storage
Manage any incidents as they occur, ensuring the safety of others and reporting all incidents to the Wave Leader, completing any necessary documentation
Set and maintain appropriate professional boundaries with young people in your care, and maintain adequate levels of participant discipline
Represent NCS goals and values effectively with stakeholders (such as partnering charities)
Supervise participants during breaks, meal, free times, and night-time responsibilities
Adhere to the lights out policy, and work with other staff to ensure the young peoples’ safety during the night
Attend staff meetings and training events, and complete NCS online modules as required
Undertake all programme administration duties as required
