JOB TITLE: Activity Leader - Residential
SALARY: £12 per hour
LOCATION: Eastbourne
OVERVIEW OF THE ROLE
Deliver a high-quality activity and excursion programme; ensure integration of language learning with the social program; maintain proper levels of student safety, discipline and welfare; Ensure a safe environment within the residence, supporting student welfare and following Twin guidelines.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Preparing and planning activities and excursions in advance
- Leading and delivering activities and excursions
- Daily maintenance of the activities notice board and sign-up sheets
- Completing risk assessments including any extra risks for individual students
- Implementing Health & Safety standards/procedures for each tour/activity/event
- Preparing for student arrivals including checking bedrooms are ready
- Taking registers for all activities, excursions and meal times
- Attending excursion, activity and staff meetings
- Participating in monthly activity leader development sessions
- Report any accidents/ incident, safeguarding or health and safety concerns immediately, and complete necessary documentation
- Report any issues with cleaning, maintenance or health and safety within the accommodation
- Settle student into accommodation and ensure bedtimes are respected
- Wake up, lights out and bedtime duty staffed on a rota basis.
- Induct new students on fire exits, assembly points and emergency procedures
- Provide new students with a tour of the centre
- Act as a “Group Leader” for individual students, on our junior programmes; providing encouragement, support and pastoral care
- Provide emotional support to any homesick student. Look after any sick students who need to stay in bed
- Maintain adequate levels of student discipline and deal with any incidents of unacceptable behaviour including bullying immediately
- Supervise students during meal times, breaks and free time when needed
- Take registers for all activities, excursions, meal times and bed times
- Assist group leaders with any special requests
- Be familiar with and complete risk assessments including any extra risks for individual/ under 18s students
- Manage procedures for valuables and pocket money
- Safekeep/ administer of medication for individual students on our junior programmes.
- Lead and deliver evening activities and/or be available during evening duties to provide assistance to group leaders.
- Check for damages before student departures and assist with student departures
- Take on the role of fire warden
- Take on the role of first-aider
- Any other reasonable/appropriate duties

Essential requirements:
Applicants should be at least 18 years old with the necessary maturity to undertake responsibility for groups of students aged between 10 and 17 years old.
Desirable, but not essential:
- Experience of supervising minors
- Safeguarding training
- Experience of working in a multi-cultural environment
- Customer service experience
- Ability to speak a second language
- Experience of working in a fast paced and high pressure environment
- Experience of working as part of a team
