Job Description

TWIN English Centre Eastbourne is looking for EFL teachers for an immediate start - we are able to offer fixed term contracts (up to six months +) permanent contracts and ad-hoc teaching based on the demands of the centre. We are able to offer successful candidates this position either in a Residential or Non Residential capacity.

TWIN Eastbourne offers courses for adults aged 16+ and Young Learners aged 10-17. We are looking for Non-Residential Teachers / Residential Teachers to teach on the General English Adult courses and our Young Learner courses, teaching up to 30 hours per week (minimum teaching hours 15 hour per week) Residential Teachers will also actively partake in the on-site activity programme in the afternoons, evenings and weekends.

Non-Residential Teachers: £17.50 - £19.50 per hour (based on experience) working 15 hours per week.

Residential Teachers: £585.00 per week (including accommodation and meals (shared room, shared bathroom) (Up to 48 Hours per week)

Contract terms: 6 months

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

Non-Residential and Residential Teachers

  • Be familiar with the courses the school offers and its syllabus.
  • Prepare lessons efficiently in order to conduct them competently. Lesson planning should cater to the needs of individuals in the class, based on individual learning plans or mini class profiles.
  • Assist in first day testing, placement, and induction if required.
  • Set and mark daily homework including written assignments once a week appropriate to the needs of the class.
  • Conduct monthly student tutorials and record agreed goals on the Twin e-Learning platform (TeL)
  • Administer weekly tests on TeL.
  • Monitor students’ progress using the class dashboard on TeL.
  • Use TeL  to view students’ placement test results and individual learning plans, complete the weekly calendar templates and share with students, set and mark homework, record and view tutorial records and progress test results, and complete leavers’ reports
  • Incorporate technology such as tablets and smart phones into your teaching and use the interactive projector when scheduled to teach in a room with such facilities.
  • Monitor and record students’ attendance and report any junior absences after 15 minutes.
  • Move students up or down a level as required in consultation with the DoS.
  • Liaise regularly with teaching partners if you share a class, provide handover information to new or substitute teachers.
  • Substitute for other teachers in case of their absence, as agreed with the DoS.
  • Be familiar with and help promote the weekly Social Programme.
  • Be prepared to teach junior classes and specialist programmes as required.
  • Be involved in the school’s observation (both by the DoS and peer observations) and performance programme including appraisals.
  • Assist with the long-term procedures (counselling session, and exit test and interview) as required.
  • Keep the teachers’ room and your classroom tidy and be responsible for the key to the cupboard in your room.
  • Abide by the copyright rules and always source material before photocopying.
  • Abide by and implement the health and safety standards and procedures for each tour/activity/event and ensure high levels of student safety and welfare.
  • Report any accidents/ incident, safeguarding or health and safety concerns immediately, and complete necessary documentation.

Residential Teachers

  • Report any issues with cleaning, maintenance or health and safety within the accommodation.
  • Settle student into accommodation and ensure bedtimes are respected.
  • Wake up and bedtime duty.
  • Induct new students on fire exits, assembly points and emergency procedures.
  • Provide new students with a tour of the centre.
  • Act as a “Group Leader” for individual students, on our junior programmes; providing encouragement, support, and pastoral care.
  • Provide emotional support to any homesick students.
  • Look after any sick students who need to stay in the residence.
  • Maintain adequate levels of student discipline and deal with any incidents of unacceptable behaviour including bullying immediately.
  • Supervise students during meal times, breaks and free time when needed.
  • Take registers for all activities, excursions, mealtimes and bed times.
  • Assist group leaders with any special requests.
  • Be familiar with and complete risk assessments including any extra risks for individual/ under 18s students.
  • Manage procedures for valuables and pocket money.
  • Safekeep/ administer of medication for individual students on our junior programmes.
  • Lead and deliver activities and excursions.
  • Check for damages before student departures.
  • Assist with student departures.
  • Take on the role of fire warden.
  • Take on the role of first aider.
  • Any other reasonable/appropriate duties

 

EDUCATION / QUALIFICATIONS

Candidates should be university graduates with a recognized EFL qualification such as CELTA, Trinity TESOL certificate, Delta or Trinity TESOL diploma.
