Job Description

JOB TITLE:                              ESOL TUTOR  

SALARY:                                 £28,000pa     

LOCATION:                      Covering one of the following areas: West Sussex, East Sussex, Surrey or Bournemouth  

REPORTS TO:                         Delivery Manager   

RESPONSIBLE FOR:              No Staff Management  

LEVEL:                                    Experienced

As an ESOL Tutor, you will play a crucial role in providing high-quality language instruction to non-native English speakers, empowering them to enhance their language skills and effectively communicate in English. You will work closely with individuals of diverse backgrounds, tailoring your teaching approach to meet the unique needs and learning styles of each student to help them to achieve qualifications in ESOL (Entry Level 1 to Level 2)

Responsibilities

  • Plan and deliver well-structured, engaging, and interactive English language lessons to individuals or small groups of ESOL students.
  • Create and implement lesson plans that align with the needs and proficiency levels of each learner.
  • Foster an inclusive and supportive learning environment that encourages student participation and confidence in using English.
  • Conduct initial assessments to determine the English proficiency level of new students.
  • Regularly evaluate and track the progress of each student, providing constructive feedback and identifying areas for improvement.
  • Ensure that registrations for exams, and exam papers are ordered in a timely manner to meet the requirements of the exam delivery
  • Tailor teaching methods and materials to address the specific language learning goals and challenges of each student.
  • Use a variety of teaching resources, including multimedia tools, language software, and real-life scenarios, to facilitate language acquisition.
  • Promote cultural awareness and sensitivity, helping students understand cultural nuances and context that may impact language usage and communication.
  • Maintain a positive and motivating learning environment that encourages student engagement and active participation.
  • Manage classroom dynamics effectively, ensuring a respectful and inclusive atmosphere.
  • Stay up-to-date with the latest trends, methodologies, and resources in ESOL teaching through continuous professional development.
  • Attend workshops, seminars, and training sessions to enhance teaching skills both internally through our curriculum department, and externally when required.
  • Ensure that delivery is of the highest quality to align with our OFSTED aspirations

Knowledge/experience – Essential and Desired

 
  

Essential

  • Native-level proficiency in English with excellent command of grammar, vocabulary, and pronunciation.
  • Prior experience in delivering ESOL classes/qualifications and hold knowledge of the ESOL Curriculum from Entry Level 1 to Level 2

Desirable

  • Multilingual abilities or proficiency in other languages is beneficial but not mandatory.
  • Knowledge of the barriers to employment for our demographic of learners, and you can assist employers to overcome the prejudice of this.

Education/Qualification – Essential and Desired  

Essential

- Bachelor's degree in TESOL, Education, Linguistics, or a related field.

- Possession of relevant certifications (e.g., TESOL, TEFL, CELTA)
