Join Our Team as a Director of Studies Eastbourne!

We seek a Director of Studies for our Eastbourne Centre who takes responsibility for the delivery of all Twin English Centre Eastbourne academic performance targets by ensuring EFL teachers work effectively and cohesively. This post is responsible for managing the academic services section of Twin English Centre Eastbourne, including academic administration and student welfare. Working with the Centre Manager and Head of Academic Quality to ensure that teaching quality is monitored, academic school administration is completed to a high standard, welfare standards are maintained, and UKVI compliance is adhered to.

The job is extremely varied and requires someone who is dynamic, creative, approachable, caring, and able to work accurately under pressure and think on their feet.

Role Responsibilities:
  • Management of Student Services, including:
  • Preparing for student arrivals by ensuring the pre-arrival tab is completed on TeL (Twin eLearning)
  • First day induction for students, including collecting and checking all student contact detail information and identification documents and visas
  • Ensuring the arrival details on CLASS are updated
  • All student administration including student letters, arrival/departure lists, and administrating holidays
  • Ensuring student absences are monitored, recorded, and acted upon in a timely manner, especially with students under the age of 18
  • Coordinating students’ departure from school, including distributing certificates and collecting student and group leader feedback
  • Student welfare including homesickness, illness, and day to day enquiries
  • Keeping all student information up to date, including student handbook, signage and notices
  • Student safety and security including ensuring the supervision of juniors during their break times
  • Testing and classing of students
  • Producing, updating and distributing class lists and registers
  • Setting and monitoring leavers’ reports
  • The organisation and management of the teaching timetable
  • Recruitment, induction and management of teaching and student services staff and interns
  • Ensuring staff files are complete and up-to-date in line with our safer recruitment policy
  • Teaching EFL, ESOL, ESP, teacher training and employability courses as required
  • Arranging cover teachers when needed and covering lessons when needed
  • The management of teachers’ administration including weekly calendar, student tutorials and progress records
  • Ensuring all students are happy in their lessons and arranging any class or course changes when necessary
  • Training teachers to use TeL and monitoring teacher and student engagement with the platform to ensure maximum usage
  • Course planning and materials review and development, including EFL, ESOL, ESP, examination and business courses, teacher training and employability
  • Ensuring all EFL teachers are observed and given feedback in line with the policy, and delivering the peer observation programme
  • Leading or scheduling fortnightly CPD input sessions and encouraging attendance at external events
  • Supporting teachers with administration and teaching matters
  • Keeping all teacher information up to date, including induction presentation, teachers guide, and notices
  • Collection and analysis of initial and end of course feedback, and holding student focus groups
  • Ordering stock and completing purchase orders
  • Ensuring teaching and learning resources are adequate, and management of the self-study centre
  • Monitoring the public areas, including office, teachers’ room, student area and classrooms, to ensure high standards are maintained
  • Monitoring student discipline in the school, and where appropriate, taking action in liaison with the Centre Manager
  • Advise students wishing to take English language exams, or progress into further education in the UK, and enrol student for exams and track results as required
  • Providing information to potential students
  • Taking bookings and payments for walk-ins and extensions
  • Monitoring quality of teaching and resources across all EFL, ESOL, ESP, teacher training and employability provision
  • UKVI and Accreditation UK compliance
  • Collaboration with the HQ departments such as Operations, Admissions, Marketing, IT, and Academic Managers in other English Centres
  • Providing content for social media accounts
  • Taking on the role of SENDs coordinator, entailing providing support for students with special educational needs and disabilities, including those from countries where the educational ethos and expectations are different from the UK
  • Taking on the roles of First Aider and Fire Warden
  • Producing risk assessments for classrooms and any academic activities
  • Ensuring that all under 18s receive an appropriate level of care
  • Taking on the role of Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead member, comprising of.
  • Review and implementation of all aspects of the safeguarding policy
  • Dealing with any safeguarding concerns following the procedures documented in the safeguarding policy.
  • Maintaining detailed, accurate and secure written records of any safeguarding referral, complaint or concern – even where that concern does not lead to a referral.
  • Acting as a source of support, advice and expertise for colleagues on matters of safety and safeguarding, and ensuring Policies & Procedures are known.
  • Ensuring open and listening culture.
  • Supporting the Centre Manager in all non-academic areas of delivery and deputising as necessary
  • Any other reasonable/appropriate duties
Principle Accountabilities:
  • Ensuring the successful welcome and first impression of Twin English Centre Eastbourne
  • Ensuring the smooth departure of all groups and individuals from the school
  • Providing ongoing support to students and ensuring they are safe, well and happy
  • The delivery of outstanding results within budget
  • Staff management, including staff development and training, absence reporting, timekeeping, new start induction
  • Managing people in line with Twin values and business rules and guidelines
  • Communication at all levels to be open and honest and a clear two- way channel 
Essential Experience Required;
Essential requirements:
  • At least three years’ full-time teaching experience including some with young learners
  • Experience working in a fast-paced and high-pressure environment
  • Experience working as part of a team
  • IT literate
Desirable, but not essential:
  • Previous managerial experience
  • Administrative experience
  • Safeguarding training
  • Customer service experience
  • Ability to speak a second language 
Education requirements:
  • Educated to degree level
  • Diploma level qualification (DELTA/Trinity TESOL Diploma and/or MA with a substantial element of observed teaching practice)
  • HSE-recognised First Aid certificate (such as St John's First Aid at Work) desirable
Additional Information
Salary: up to £35,000.00 per annum depending on experience
Location: Eastbourne  
Contract:  Permanent – Full time
Hours: 42.5 per week
