Director of Studies
£40,000.00 per annum, experience-dependent

As the Director of Studies, you will be responsible for the smooth running of the EFL and Academic Level 3 programmes, including testing, timetabling, allocating classes, providing ongoing guidance and support to teachers, carrying out observations and running teacher development sessions. Also working to ensure the curriculum is delivered effectively and meets the standards of our accrediting bodies while ensuring welfare standards are maintained, and regulatory compliance is adhered to.

The Director of Studies is responsible for ensuring educational excellence and compliance with accreditation standards, including British Council and NCUK criteria. 
This role is extremely varied and requires someone dynamic, creative, approachable, caring, and able to work accurately under pressure and think on their feet.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Ensuring the centre is a welcoming and safe space for all staff and learners and all health and safety and safeguarding requirements are adhered to.
  • Recruitment and line management responsibility for Senior Teachers and EFL Teachers. Lead and manage a team of EFL Teachers and Senior Teachers, monitor their performance, provide support and guidance, contribute to their professional development, and conduct staff reviews and appraisals.
  • Ensure the delivery of an outstanding academic programme, which is delivered competently, diligently, and safely by checking lesson plans, conducting observations, and monitoring student participation and progression.
  • Ensure EFL Teachers follow Twin’s syllabus and deliver high-quality lessons that develop students' language skills, increase vocabulary, build confidence and fluency in English, and provide insight into English culture.
  • Ensure teachers execute lessons in an inclusive, motivational, and inspirational way, promoting good conduct and creating a positive learning environment.
  • Cover for teacher absences when required.
  • Organise, manage, and deliver weekly Placement Tests for new students to ensure correct class placement.
  • Create and manage classes, assign teachers, and undertake administrative tasks for a smooth academic programme.
  • Ensure weekly progress checks are conducted to confirm students' correct level and improvement.
  • Organise, manage, and store paperwork related to the academic programme.
  • Ensure teachers write inspiring, personalised, and error-free end-of-course reports.
  • Monitor and manage students' conduct and behaviour to promote a harmonious international community.
  • Ensure students' physical and emotional well-being and report any concerns to the College Manager or DSL as appropriate.
  • Assist with the day-to-day running of the centre, covering the management office, and supporting the College Manager
  • Assist with the day-to-day running of the International Foundation year programme and all other specialised programmes.
  • Work closely with the College Manager, Head of Operations and other stakeholders to manage and oversee the completion and submission of all documents for inspection purposes.
  • Ensure compliance with the Teaching and Learning section of the British Council and other inspection bodies' criteria to maintain high industry standards and accreditation.
Essential Knowledge & Experience
  • Extensive teaching experience in various contexts
  • Experience in teaching mixed nationality groups
  • Director of Studies experience
  • Experience in managing staff.
Desirable, but not essential:
  • Ability to speak a second language

Essential Qualifications
  • Essential: University Degree in any discipline
  • Essential: DELTA/Trinity Dip. TESOL (or Accreditation UK recognised equivalent)
